Bible Study: Everyone
Hymn: 401:1-3 From God the Father, Virgin-Born
Psalm 24 Creed (Back Cover) Lord’s Prayer (Back Cover) THE TABLE OF DUTIES
To Everyone
The commandments...are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Romans 13:9 “I urge...that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone.” 1 Timothy 2:1
Are we to love others in the same way we love ourselves, or another way?
How does this “one rule” sum up the commandments?
What compels or calls us to do this? (Read 1 John 4:7-11)
o Is this how we usually think of it? § Why not? Do our neighbors “deserve our service?”
o We joyfully serve some, why?
o “Beloved, if God so loves us, we also ought to _____________”
What is the source of true “fulfillment?” Living for ourselves, or giving of ourselves to one another out
of love for Christ?
Why should we pray for one another?
What do we pray for them?
What do we pray for ourselves?
o How does this sum up the point of the table of duties?
Prayer for Everyone
O Lord, as You have loved us in place of Yourself and thereby fulfilled all of God’s Law on our behalf, teach us to walk by faith in Your love in all that we do, to live in love and self-sacrifice toward others in our callings, and to pray for everyone in need, seeking not our own glory but the welfare and salvation of our neighbor; in Your holy name we pray. Amen.
