1) Jesus and the Law
a) What is the gripe of the Pharisees against the disciples?
i) How did they understand the Third Commandment?
ii) Is this really what it means?
(1) How does Jesus explain the purpose of the law here?
(2) Is it meant to be oppressive? To make us righteous?
b) What does Jesus mean, “I desire mercy, and not sacrifice?”
i) But didn’t he require sacrifice?
ii) How does the compare to what the Pharisees think about the Law in general?
2) The Healing on the Sabbath
a) Where was the man with the withered hand?
i) Why do you think he was there?
ii) How do the Pharisees respond to his presence?
iii) How does Jesus respond?
b) Why does Jesus, quoting Isaiah, say that he has come?
i) Who finds justice and victory in Christ?
ii) How does that exclude those like the Pharisees?
